Purpose:

To demonstrate understanding of landscape perspective strategies;
To familiarize yourself with the work of photographer Ansel Adams.
A graphite drawing based on the work of Ansel Adams (Half Dome, Oak Trees, Autumn, Yosemite National Park, California)
The quality of lines varies in different places of the drawing. In areas like shading on the mountain, they are straight and rigid, similar to how the rock would be on the mountain in real life. However, in areas like the grass and trees, I used a lot of curvy, quick lines. This was to imitate the texture and appearance of leaves and grass. Lots of value was needed because the majority of the foreground and middle ground was a lot of leaves and grass. To differentiate between the different trees, I had to put a lot of focus into the different values in the grass, areas of the leaves, and especially the tree trunks. I am very happy with how this drawing turned out. I put a lot of effort into it and I think it shows. I think there is a lot of depth and value to the whole piece which I am very proud of. I like the contrast between the straight lines and the curvy, loose lines. Overall, I am very happy with this piece and how it turned out.
