Purpose:
To experiment with a variety of watercolor techniques;
To make connections between experimenting with watercolor techniques and learning to create your own landscape watercolor.
While working on this assignment, I learned about the techniques that I need to keep in mind when creating my final piece. I think that I learned a lot and did well on using the different techniques of watercolor. I have painted with watercolors before, however, I didn't know specifically how to use them and what the different techniques were. I think I got really good at getting comfortable with the brush and using pigments. I think I need to work on keeping white spaces in my final piece. While I did keep light spaces, I didn’t plan out what I was doing far enough which is essential in water color. Because of this, I don’t have any white spaces within my practice sections which I need to have in my final piece. This requires me to plan ahead much better for my final piece and possibly use a masking fluid. I think that I should also consider having more value and dark spots in my final piece as I think my practice was a little bit flat and lacked any contrast or value. I also want to keep in mind mixing my colors more to prevent my piece from, again, appearing flat and boring. I think the fact that we have the option to choose more colors will help a lot with this. Because I have a lot of texture in my foreground of the photo, I will need to hone in on the techniques we went over in the first part of our introduction to watercolor.
