Art Fundamentals

Final Reflection:

I am most proud of my Eastern Box Turtle relief tile. Not only did I have a lot of fun doing this project, but I also think it turned out really well. Specifically I am really proud of the turtle itself; I think the colors turned out really well and clean and I love the look of the turtle. I was also impressed by how the background turned out. I think the colors look especially bright and neat and I am really proud of it. I also love the secondary color scheme and think it works really well for my systems and turtle. When you create something you are proud of, it is really motivating. You become excited to work on the piece, but you also become excited to create even more pieces that you are proud of. Even if the work is challenging, you are motivated to reach the end result so that you have a work that you are proud of.  I think that the two most informative things we did were probably our value portraits and our work with color theory. Especially with the work on value, it really forced me to think about how light and shadows came into play when creating realistic and enticing art pieces. When looking at other art pieces, I have found myself studying how they have used value, and when creating my own art pieces, I have found myself thinking about how I can better the values that are present in what I am drawing. Especially for color theory, it was really helpful to look at color schemes and how they fit into art. In my own art I have used this knowledge a lot to create art with interesting color schemes that draw the eye. I have found that having knowledge of color theory can really bring your art to a different level. I am most definitely going to take Drawing and Painting class next year. I am really passionate about art and I think that this would be a really fun class to have an environment where I get to try new things with drawing and painting. I would also like to start drawing more in my free time. Sometimes I lack motivation to do art but I think that drawing and creating more would help me to improve my skill further.   

First Thoughts:

I love creating art, it is one of my favorite things to do! I love creating art because it helps me express my emotions and myself, and it also helps me escape. In this class, I hope to improve my drawing skills and work on being able to draw a multitude of different things as I tend to stick to drawing one subject (I mostly prefer drawing people/portraits). I hope we work with graphite in this class as I love to sketch and draw, and I also hope we work with acrylic just because I find it to be so much fun!
