This project forced me to think outside the box in search of ideas and forced me outside of my comfort zone in terms of my subject content as well. I am used to mainly drawing and painting portraits of people, and usually do not create art of much else. However, this project not only forced me to come up with interesting ideas related to the prompts, but also made me think about how I could incorporate the background images into my art. It resulted in some cool pieces which I am very proud of, and doing this project made me consider using mixed media again, but also made me think of how I can expand my subject matter and the style of my pieces.
I have a lot of pages that I really love—I love the “Eye Can See You” page because it was simply so much fun to make, I love the “Our Last Summer” page because it is very melancholy but to me very pleasing to look at, but I think the one that is most important to me is my “Childhood” brainstorm page. It was very fun to create and find ways to make the text pop against the busy background, but I also had a really fun time writing the different childhood experiences that I included. It made me feel very sentimental and melancholy at times—reminiscent in a bittersweet way. I also included a poem I wrote on the right side of the page which I had written a while ago, and felt that encompassed one experience of growing up. To me, it is very pleasing to look at in the way I laid it out, and the colors are just so fun. Although I love so many of my other pieces in this book, I feel as though this one is the most important to me because of the sentimentality.
I worked very hard on this summer project, and I was very committed to it. It was incredibly fun which helped with my motivation to do it! I spent multiple days working on this—it took me a very long time but I feel as if it was worth it. I think I came out with some really interesting pieces which were very fun to work on! I would honestly love to keep working in this book to fill the pages up with art. I put a lot of effort into creating interesting ideas and thinking of using the pages in creative ways, and I hope it shows!! I think it does. I had so much fun working on this, and the effort was SO worth it.
