Purpose:
To use a shadow to enhance your artwork; tell a story; or even interact with your viewer;
To create your own "shadow" photography by setting up items to photograph, going outside and looking for natural shadow art in the world, allowing someone to interact with the shadow, or even allowing the shadow to interact with the world.
I chose to post this picture because of how much the apple stands out compared to the black and white background. I set up this photo by setting the apple on paper and using the shadow of my sister's hand. I took many pictures of this subject holding the light at different angles, but I chose this one because the shadows were the darkest.
To make this photo, I used a wire wrap from a necklace and a flashlight. I intended on making the shadow look a lot bigger than the wire wrap by positioning the flashlight by the bottom of it, pointing up through it. To get the white background, I photographed the necklace on a thick piece of paper. I chose to post this photo because the shadow is so dark and solid.
I originally saw a photo on Pinterest of Cheerios on a white surface with shadows. I got inspired and decided to use Lucky Charms because they're more colorful than Cheerios, but still have the same texture. It was hard to take this photo from this angle without the shadow of the phone getting in the way. I'm quite proud of this picture because it came out so focused and the shadows are emphasized.
