Welcome to the Trans@Yale Survival Guide, originally written in 2016 and maintained by the members of Trans@Yale. Trans@Yale, formed in the fall of 2015, is an organization whose mission is to provide both resources and social space for trans and non-binary undergraduate students. Trans@Yale is a registered student organization as of the spring of 2016.
This survival guide was born out of a desire for more resources for people new to being Trans@Yale. While one-on-one mentorship and university-sponsored resources are useful, we also wanted to create a communal resource, made by and for students, to address the different ways being trans affects our lives here and to publicize resources we have at our disposal.
In addition, this document was created with the goal of creating a greater sense of belonging and community for trans people at Yale, and to demonstrate that we are not alone here. This document, which will be updated continuously as information changes, represents at least one part of the accumulated experience of trans people here, and will hopefully be a community resource that continues to grow.
Trans@Yale is an organization run by and for trans/non-binary members of the Yale community including staff, faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, partners, family members, etc. We collaborate with the New Haven community on events and resources, work with other Yale organizations to plan events, and annually organize Trans Day of Visibility and Trans Day of Remembrance.Â
In addition, the resources compiled here are only a small sample of what is available on the internet. If anything you read in this guide interests you, or you want to know more about something that is not included, the web probably has answers! Use an incognito window (Control/Command-Shift-N or Control/Command-Shift-P, depending on your browser) if you need to keep these searches out of your search history.
