The following CLIL sessions are designed for a public school located in a semi urban area, which has a total amount of 305 students, in primary and secondary stages, and most of the grades split in 2 groups, so the average ratio is 17 students per classroom. It is the only primary and secondary school in a town of approximately 1,800 inhabitants, and it depends directly on the Education Department. The town census has been increasing since 1998 (1400 inhabitants) due to the arrival of young families in the town and the surrounding areas, changing the town characteristics from a rural and mostly agricultural community into a residential area where many citizens live in but don’t work in it.
The IE Mossèn Cinto is an integrated school model of primary and secondary (institut escola) where students from 3 to 16 ages coexist, interact and share not only spaces but also experiences, learning goals and knowledge. The educational project of the school can be defined by the following main concepts and added values of:
a continuous and extended learning process for pupils 3-16
an evolutive approach of students’ learning
the coexistence of infants and teenagers in the same centre
globalised learning methodologies
versatility and polyvalence
globalization of the teaching process
a markedly pedagogical leadership
The main characteristic of the IE Mossèn Cinto, that defines the pedagogical and the organizational structure, is to have a unique and coherent educational project which takes advantage of the opportunities of the integrated model in terms of continuity and coexistence. The school has consolidated lines in primary and in secondary education, in the same building but with adapted spaces according to the ages.
School premises consist of a two-storey building containing 13 primary education classrooms and 3 secondary education classrooms. The centre also offers kitchen and dining service and monitoring for all students, both primary and secondary, as the educational timetables are the same for both levels of education, primary and secondary. Students also share the same playground and the rest of the centre facilities such as the gym, canteen, laboratory and the technology, music and art classrooms.
When it comes to ICT facilities and material, every classroom is provided with a projector connected to a screen and a tower computer. Teachers and students use personal laptops that the Catalan Department of Education is lending with the implementation of the Pla d’Educació Digital de Catalunya 2020-2023 (PEDC). The educational centre manages and controls the chromebooks for students and the laptops for teachers.
