During the third school term, the English and science teachers of 6th primary grade started the project: INVASIVE SPECIES, which is the frame project for our CLIL lessons we are explaining here.
We introduced the new cooperative project to the students. We launched the challenge related to invasive species, and we also gave the students some ideas on what will be working on throughout the project. By this means, we could focus on the topic, the challenges, the objectives, and the methodology we used to carry on the mentioned project.
We created a Google Site to show up the information, to set the guidelines, the competencies to work and to be used as a digital resource of information. The intention was to create a motivating and a real atmosphere to engage our students to the project, but also to make clear the objectives of it. When we first explained the methodology and basically the language to interact, some students went into panic. The use of English as a communicative language was a big challenge for some of our students, so the teachers tried to convey a message of confidence and calm, by explaining to them that we were not looking for a perfection in their spoken productions but an effort in the use of English language to communicate in class. Of course, Catalan or Spanish could be used as well.
We don't want to fail mentioning in this portfolio the invaluable help of our colleague, Lluís Elías, a specialist teacher in foreign language, who has taken on a significant role in the implementation of the project already initiated with utmost energy and dedication.
For this, we want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH, LLUÍS.
We offered the students some inspiring quotes to help them get the idea of cooperative work...
