New Resource: ParentGuidance.org

January 28, 2021

Wyomissing Area School District is offering a new resource for parents and families to better support their children with mental health and wellness. https://parentguidance.org/ is free and confidential to all parents and families in our district.

ParentGuidance.org is a service developed by licensed therapists that provides trusted and specialized courses, professional support, and a safe community for parents to learn how to support their children and get answers to mental health questions.

Our hope is that ParentGuidance.org will give concerned parents a place to go for answers to support and help their children struggling with depression, anxiety, and family strife, as well as provide tools for forming stronger bonds between parents and their children.

Look for the logo that is on the WASD homepage to learn more about this free service available to Wyomissing families.

Discuss Rules in Advance

Communicate clearly with everyone involved to determine who is comfortable with what. Set ground rules early so that anyone who is uncomfortable with the arrangements has a chance to excuse themselves from participating. Make sure your child knows that the safety rules have been carefully considered.

Stay the Course

Refer to the ground rules to keep the plan in place. Stick to the rules you set.

Start New Traditions

Find new activities to make the pandemic holidays special. Make a photo album, write letters, schedule a video chat, exchange food with nearby loved ones, etc.

Give Kids a Voice

Let your kids be part of the decision-making process to help offset some of the negative feelings.

Let Kids Express Disappointment

Validate your child’s feelings by hearing them out. Pause and acknowledge that you are disappointed, too, and let them know it’s okay for them to feel disappointed. Talk to your child about what you can do to help them feel better about these feelings. If your child is angry, validate their anger by saying something like…
