I stated several times during this course my hope to make my assessment process more meaningful, seamless, and timely. It helps that I have a better understanding of various Learning Targets and how I can structure my curriculum around them. Using this, I’ve developed a flow of assessment (self-assessment, assessment conferences, reflection, and portfolio integration). Beyond my control is the hope that technology will catch up with us and that all resources, assignment submission, assessment, and scoring will happen in the same place with one technology tool. If there are any master coders willing to build this LMS, I will invest in it. As it stands, I believe that technology has the potential to make summative assessment more meaningful because of the variety of tools and resources a student can access, but it has also made many aspects of assessment more time consuming for the educator.
Now that I have front-loaded an entire unit on "Technology and Globalization" around my desired learning targets, I can shift my role into that of a guide rather than a direct purveyor of knowledge. This means that I can spend more time on real-time assessment and meaningful feedback.
