The seventh graders who will be taking part in this unit will be new to Harwood Middle School, and this unit will take place within the first month of the school year. As such, this “Who Am I As A Learner?” unit will allow me get to know my students as learners and as people, and it will offer my students the chance to consider both their educational strengths and weaknesses as tools to their academic success. In addition, students will be introduced to Proficiency Based Learning, with focus on the Self-Direction proficiency, which covers academic work habits. In the end, students will deliver a presentation on a topic of their choice, with consideration of who they are as learners, and they will be assessed in Self-Direction.
