I got a lot out of the sharing opportunities in this course, but there was more than just that. With five years of teaching under my belt, and in the newer context of Act 77 - specifically proficiency based learning - any new learning (or re-learning) on my part is an opportunity to expand and refine my practice. That being said, I don’t think I ever fully learned the ins and outs of either inquiry or project based learning before this course This is a new realization; I don’t think I even thought about this in September toward the beginning of this course. In these five years, I have attempted to create moments of inquiry and PBL, but in reality, neither of these are represented by snapshots of my classroom. IBL and PBL are a process.
Fortunately, I went through this process from beginning to end as part of this course, and in doing so, I created my first comprehensive Inquiry Project. In this "Dueling Ideologies" unit, my students will use their knowledge of communism and capitalism as a jumping-off point to research what makes an ideology spread. Then, using the propaganda and persuasive strategies they have discovered in their research, student will create their own propaganda.
