SpellingAssessment.mp4

Let's check in on your spelling! This is to be done with NO HELP FROM GROWNUPS! Try your best -- I can HOW to try, not if the words are perfect.

  • Write the word (26 total) on lined paper. Use a pencil or pen.

  • Have a grown up send a picture of your words to Brin

This will help me and next year's teacher know how to help you NEXT with your spelling :)

Week of 11/2: We will again practice spelling words with -ing, -ed, and -less suffixes, changing what happens with "bossy E" when we add consonant vs. vowel suffixes. Follow along with Brin (who looks like a pirate in this video...but is not...promise) as we practice writing words with this spelling rule.

V-EwordsWithSuffixes.mp4

Prior Week Phonics Lessons and Practice:

Week of 10/26: We continue our review of the Vowel-Consonant-E syllable type (V-E or "bossy E") that makes vowels long. We will also add suffixes to V-E words to see how this changes the spelling. When we add a suffix starting with a VOWEL, we have to DROP THE E before adding the vowel suffix. When we add a suffix that starts with a CONSONANT, we can just slap it on right after the E. This is a tricky spelling concept! We will practice in our literacy groups, as well.

DrillSoundsBuildWords_BossyEWithSuffixes.mp4

Week of 10/19: We are reviewing the V-E syllable type, in which the silent "Bossy E" at the end makes the vowel say its name (long sound). Practice DRILL SOUNDS several times this week. Try out the DICTATION and email Brin your final score!

Drill Sounds:

Dictation:

Please watch these two videos (as many times as you want) to practice drill sounds and also spelling words correctly.

Week of 10/5: Review short vowels, digraphs (two letters; one sound), and glued sounds. We will also add in 8 "review" glued sounds: ang, ank, ing, ink, ong, onk, ung, unk. Please watch these two videos (as many times as you want) to practice these reading concepts this week!
