A: Weber School District offers Associate Degree tracks through Weber State University. Students are required to earn 60 college credits in certain areas to fulfill Associate Degree criteria. The maximum amount of Concurrent Enrollment credits you can take is 30 credits per year (about five college classes a semester). It is highly recommended to start taking college courses your 10th grade year in order to get your Associates by the time you graduate.
Weber State University offers a Certificate of Completion as well. The Certificate of Completion is awarded to students who have met all required general education criteria (30-40 credits). This option certifies that students have completed general education and will complete elective requirements after high school.
Students who want to pursue an Associate Degree or Certificate of Completion should work closely with their Innovation High counselor and the Weber State Conccurent Enrollment Advisor to determine which path would be best.
A: No, students are not automatically enrolled in college courses. Some college courses require specific grade levels, prerequisites, etc. that students will have to meet before being enrolled in college classes. If your child wants to take college classes he/she will need to complete a couple of steps before taking them. Please contact your counselor to learn more about these steps.
Innovation High works with Weber State University, Snow College and Southern Utah University to offer a wide range of college class option. Students taking Weber State classes will be added to these classes at the high school level by their counselor. Then on the first week of class, students will be given instructions on how to register for college credit by their teachers.
Students taking classes through Snow College and SUU will register for those courses before the semester starts. Information on this process can be found on the Concurrent Enrollment page for those colleges. After students have registered, counselors will receive rolls from these colleges and the classes will be added to your high school schedule.
A: No, the grade levels indicated on the prerequisites are based on state requirements not credits earned. If your transcript lists you as a 10th grade student and you have enough credits to be considered an 11th grader, the system will still recognize you as a 10th grader and you will be limited to 10th grade options.
A: Project Lead the Way (PLTW) are courses through the Project Lead the Way grant. These courses are available to all of Weber School District students. These classes are housed at Innovation High. These courses include, but are not limited to Computer and Engineering classes.
