Grade​ ​9​ ​–​ Technology​ and the Skilled Trades ​-​ ​TAS1O  CURRICULUM​ ​Expectations:  ‘This​ ​course​ ​enables​ ​students​ ​to​ explore​ ​and​ ​develop​ ​technological​ ​knowledge​ ​and​ ​practical skills in areas that students may not have had the opportunity to study prior to grade 9.   ​Students​ ​will​ ​be​ ​given​ ​the opportunity​ ​to​ ​design​ ​and ​create​ ​products​ using 3D printers and ​​​provide​ ​services​ ​related​ ​to​ ​the​ ​various technological​ ​areas​ ​or​ ​industries such as repairing vehicles,  constructing wood projects and enclosed structures, and manufacturing tooling and projects.​ ​Students will be working​ ​with​ ​a​ ​variety​ ​of​ top-of-the-line ​tools, ​modern equipment, ​and​ ​software commonly​ ​used​ ​in​ ​industry. 

The​ ​Grade​ ​9​ ​Exploring​ ​Technology​ ​classrooms​ ​here​ ​at​ Southwood​​ ​are​​ ​exciting, fast-paced​ ​learning​ ​environments which are open to all levels of knowledge and skill.  ​​ ​This​ ​course offers the opportunity​ ​to​ ​truly​ ​‘explore’ different​ ​technologies​ ​and​ ​their​ ​applications​ while investigating future career possibilities by having the students rotate through several areas of study which include Manufacturing, Tech Design, Transportation and Construction within the semester.

The Southwood Tech department places an emphasis on career-focused and hands-on training in all areas of study to meet current trade expectations.

When enrolled in a technical class here at Southwood, students have the opportunity to take advantage of industry-standard technology in the classroom preparing them for future pathways and employment. For example, Master Cam, ProDemand, OnShape, Fusion, and AutoCAD are such programs that are incorporated into the curriculum.
