Grade 9 – Technology and the Skilled Trades - TAS1O CURRICULUM Expectations: ‘This course enables students to explore and develop technological knowledge and practical skills in areas that students may not have had the opportunity to study prior to grade 9. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products using 3D printers and provide services related to the various technological areas or industries such as repairing vehicles, constructing wood projects and enclosed structures, and manufacturing tooling and projects. Students will be working with a variety of top-of-the-line tools, modern equipment, and software commonly used in industry.
The Grade 9 Exploring Technology classrooms here at Southwood are exciting, fast-paced learning environments which are open to all levels of knowledge and skill. This course offers the opportunity to truly ‘explore’ different technologies and their applications while investigating future career possibilities by having the students rotate through several areas of study which include Manufacturing, Tech Design, Transportation and Construction within the semester.

The Southwood Tech department places an emphasis on career-focused and hands-on training in all areas of study to meet current trade expectations.
When enrolled in a technical class here at Southwood, students have the opportunity to take advantage of industry-standard technology in the classroom preparing them for future pathways and employment. For example, Master Cam, ProDemand, OnShape, Fusion, and AutoCAD are such programs that are incorporated into the curriculum.
