Photo Day - Thursday October 16, 2025
We are on our way with reading and using our symbols. This past week, a bookmark was sent home to complete with their name and the symbols for reading on the other side. This is a great conversation starter about our reading program to start the year. This week, we resume our Phonemic Assessments with the second part. We are close to completing these assessments, which will help with creating small reading groups to encourage and boost our reading fluency and comprehension.
In writing, we will embark on a deeper exploration of paragraph writing, combining it with journal writing. This will be a great way to encourage the use of a single idea that is elaborated upon with descriptions and details.
In reading, we will begin looking at perspective and Point of view, thinking about some of our traditional fairy tales and thinking about the point of view of different characters. This will help us gain a deeper appreciation of the author's purpose
We will continue our weekly word list for a spelling test at the end of the week. Each list will contain various words with a common phonemic theme. Lists will be provided on paper on Mondays and will also be shared on Google Classroom for students and on my classroom website. Please help your child review the words and help them prepare for the test on Friday. Ten words will be chosen at random for the test. GOOD LUCK! The words can be found here.
Our library days will be DAY 2. This will be NEXT MONDAY!
4/ We are looking at the political map of Canada and the provinces and territories. We will look at similiarities and differences between the provinces.
5/ We are learning about the Haudenosaune and Anishnabee First Nations groups and their similarities and differences. We will apply this to connecting to other First Nations groups across Canada.
6/ We are using the quote by Carl Sagan "You have to know the past to understand the present" and we will make Connections and see the Cause and Consequence of past events and how they shape the present, here in Waterloo Region.
