Grade 5/6 - November 21, 2025
We will continue our second unit of study in Reading, looking at parts of text and understanding main idea. This will help us with reading for meaning and understanding how stories tell us a message. We will be using fairy tales to help understand the beginning, middle and end of stories. This will help us with summarizing and using only the most important parts of the story to share.
This week, we continue our Phonemic modules. Students will be immersed with French sounds/phonemic awareness and be able to practice this in class using their notebooks and whiteboards. Ask your child all about this, this upcoming week! with the second part. This will help with creating small reading groups to encourage and boost our reading fluency and comprehension.
In writing, we will embark on a deeper exploration of paragraph writing, combining it with journal writing. This will be a great way to encourage the use of a single idea that is elaborated upon with descriptions and details. We will revisit some strategies like our PWIM charts to help with vocabulary and adjectives.
SPELLING: Semaine 7 - Noms et adjectifs épicènes Noms et adjectifs qui ne changent pas du masculin au féminin
We will continue our weekly word list for a spelling test at the end of the week. Each list will contain various words with a common phonemic theme. Lists will be provided on paper on Mondays and will also be shared on Google Classroom for students and on my classroom website. Please help your child review the words and help them prepare for the test on Friday. Ten words will be chosen at random for the test. GOOD LUCK! The words can be found here.
Our library days will be DAY 2. This will be this MONDAY!

There will be a quiz this week for Grade 4s about the location, names and capitals of the provinces and the masses of water that Canada is lucky to have
5/ We are learning about the Haudenosaune and Anishnabee First Nations groups and their similarities and differences. We will apply this to connecting to other First Nations groups across Canada.
