There are three main ways in which you are likely to take advantage of WISR's paid membership in the Library and Information Resources Network:
1) Most significantly, a number of required and recommended books are available through the "Ebook Central: Academic Complete Collection." Also, we have identified a number of valuable, recommended readings from among the books in that collection.
2) Sometimes you may wish to search for articles and books on a particular, focused, topic of special interest.
A) If you are searching for articles and books on a certain topic, you begin to use the search function, and you can specify various areas in which you are looking for the topic (e.g., psychology, or better yet a more targeted search like "adolescents" and "conduct disorder" for example). You may wish to only consider what's been published in the last five years, and/or only things in English, for example. When you are conducting a search on a topic of interest, we strongly recommend that you ask for assistance from WISR's librarian (cynthia.roberson@wisr.edu ) and/or from one of the faculty.
B) More often, you will likely be trying to access one of the required books available through the "Ebook Central: Academic Complete" collection. There are three strategies for accessing specific books that are required, or recommended, for WISR courses. We strongly recommend strategy #1 because it is the "second fastest" of the three strategies, and also the one that will definitely work without fail (we say this because the options to go directly to a book's link do not always work due to changes sometimes made by those in charge of the Ebook Central collection).
1) From WISR's online course, obtain the link to the particular "bookshelf" in WISR's collection (e.g., the "MFT" bookshelf or the "leadership" bookshelf). Once you are logged into LIRN (see above), paste and copy that bookshelf link into your browser and click "enter" and you will then find a list of (usually) 5 to 15 or so books in that category. You then look through the list and select the book that you are looking for that is required or recommended for the course you are currently pursuing.
2) From WISR's online course, if there is a direct link to a particular book, once you are logged into LIRN, you can try entering that in the web browser and see if it takes you directly to the book.
3) This option is only if unexpectedly the two previous steps fail (and if they do, you should contact a WISR faculty member or WISR's librarian (cynthia.roberson@wisr.edu ). This option is to write the entire title of the book you are looking for and then do a search for it as soon as you are logged into LIRN.
