All WISR graduate students are required to join at least one professional organization that is relevant to their studies—many associations give their members free access to high quality journals. WISR MFT students purchase (for $100/year or a bit more) an annual student membership in CAMFT (for details go to: http://www.camft.org/ --the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists). In addition, many doctoral students may wish to join either CAMFT (out of State doctoral students in the field of psychology/counseling are eligible for an Associate Membership in CAMFT), or the American Educational Research Association ( http://www.aera.net/ ), or the American Sociological Association ( http://www.asanet.org/ ). Also, students may obtain approval from faculty for joining a different professional association. Such memberships give students access to journals. Participation in such professional associations is an important, valuable benefit that all students should take advantage of. For this reason, one such membership is required of all Master’s and Doctoral students, not only to access valuable learning resources, but also because they provide opportunities for dialogue and learning with other professionals in areas related to their studies.
For most WISR MFT courses, EACH module typically presents you with a long list of reading options, the vast majority of which can be accessed through CAMFT's access to the EBSCO database. Here are the steps you take with your CAMFT membership access through www.camft.org
