WISR's online courses are designed to be accessed only by WISR students, faculty, staff, Board, and Advisory Committee. This is accomplished by limiting access to people, only when they are using computers (including tablets and smart phones) and are logged into their wisr.edu email address (i.e., their WISR Google Account) AND not logged into any other email. This is important for many reasons--some of the readings have been purchased by WISR (e.g., through LIRN- https://proxy.lirn.net/WesternInstForSocRsch User name:58879 PW:kindscale93). Only for use by WISR students and faculty. Also, the posts and replies on the WISR online forum (accessed through the Google Currents App in the Google Workspace for the wisr.edu education community) are to be seen only by people in the WISR learning community.
This means you are not to share access to your wisr.edu email with anyone else!!
Caution: People often assume that if they shut down their computer or close a browser window that this is sufficient to log out of another (non-wisr.edu) email. IT IS NOT!!! To be sure that you can gain access to an online course, you should LOG OUT of all other emails on your computer, and then log into your wisr.edu email.
On or before your first date of enrollment, or joining the WISR faculty, a WISR official will assign you a wisr.edu email account, in the form of: firstname.lastname@wisr.edu (e.g., jane.doe@wisr.edu ). They will email you a temporary password, and then, once you successfully log in, you should change the password to something that you will remember and not share with others. [If you have difficulties contact the WISR official with whom you have been communicating, or any other WISR faculty person, for help. You should also contact them if you forget your password, and wish to get a new temporary password, in order to reset your password.]
You are strongly advised, but not required, to use the Google Chrome browser. Then, with any browser you plan to use, you should:
a) SIGN OUT OF ALL EMAIL ACCOUNTS ON YOUR COMPUTER,
b) go to: www. accounts.google.com ,
c) SELECT THE OPTION TO ADD AN EMAIL ACCOUNT, and
d) FINALLY add your wisr.edu account and use the temporary password to log in.
Click in the top right corner on your "profile" and go to "personal information" and change your password to something you wish to use.
You may use your wisr.edu email--to access ALL the FEATURES OF YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT, SO THAT YOU CAN MAKE THE MOST OF THE GOOGLE WORKSPACE FOR EDUCATION. For example, you can (but do not have to) use it for email communications, or you can set up the email account to forward all your wisr.edu emails to another account (for details go to: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/10957?hl=en ). You can use your wisr.edu Google Account to access your own, personal Google Drive associated with your wisr.edu account. The Google Drive will be especially valuable for maintaining, organizing and sharing with others, your various WISR-related files (e.g., students can keep drafts as well as final versions of their written assignments, and faculty can keep in their drive the work submitted to them by their students). You may also use your own drive for personal purposes such as storing photos and videos--since for now Google gives us unlimited storage (this is a fringe benefit of having your own Google Account through wisr.edu ). Your wisr.edu Google Account gives you important, needed access to WISR courses and to the WISR forum, as well as other apps and features available through the Google Workspace for Education.
In any case, you MUST log into your wisr.edu email account on your computer (or tablet or phone) in order to access the WISR online courses!
Further, only by logging out of your other email accounts, and then logging into your wisr.edu account, are you able to access WISR's online courses--which are NOT accessible to others outside of WISR. For this reason, you should not share access to your wisr.edu email account with anyone else!
New students, and new faculty, are expected to set up an appointment with WISR's CEO/President, or with another member of the Graduate Faculty to whom you are referred, to get an orientation to WISR's online courses and to the set up and use of your wisr.edu Google Account. THIS GUIDE IS TO SUPPLEMENT, AND BE A COMPANION TO, THAT PERSONALIZED ORIENTATION, BUT IS NOT MEANT TO REPLACE IT! In addition, students in the MS in Education and Community Leadership must take an orientation course, MS 501, with EdD students being required to begin by taking a similar orientation course, EdD 601. MS in Psychology/MFT students are not required to take an orientation course, but are strongly advised to review the information in the introductory course, MS 501, and without doing the assignments for that course are expected to read through the information posted in that course.
