A comfortable outfit helps you focus on your dog in the show ring.
When showing in showmanship, youth will run, reach up, lean over, kneel, and squat. Test outfits to see if clothing will ride up, be revealing, or need adjustment during or after these movements.
Tip: Test your outfit by trying it at a showmanship class before the fair!
No tank tops
Should not show chest when leaning forward.
Should not show belly when youth reach up. Tuck shirts in when appropriate.
No shorts
Dress pants or khakis are preferred
A belt is recommended
Skirts and dresses may be worn.
Skirts and dresses should be between knee-length and mid-calf length.
Skirts and dresses should have adequate fullness to accommodate running and kneeling.
Closed-toe, closed-heel shoes that are appropriate for running. No high heels.
Sneakers are not penalized, such as wearing sneakers with dress pants or a dress.
Laces tied.
Long hair should be styled in a way so it does not get into youth’s face when they lean over.
