How to Groom Double-Coated Dogs
Double-coated dogs have obvious undercoat and a noticeable annual/seasonal shed that usually starts in February or March. Longer hair is called "furnishings." This coat type is prone to matting behind the ears, in the armpits, on the back of the dog's legs, in the sanitary area and on the underside of the tail. The coat is maintained by deshedding, detangling and combing. Sometimes the areas most likely to mat are trimmed or shaved to prevent matting
