Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
A busy final week with Internet Safety Monday, the House Rock, Paper, Scissors final, and No Pen day! We think that No Pen day was so much fun - we really feel we have made some progress with our careful listening and confident speaking skills. Thank you Ms Beadle for organising such a fun day!
This week in Humanities, we have been completing our Victorian board-games - we were not allowed to use pens today, so will be completing them after half term. We have played lots of Victorian parlour games that encouraged us to listen carefully and speak up, such as 'Pass the slipper', the 'Ministers Cat' and 'Dictionary'. Our favourite was Mr Whiskers, where we had to match the classmate to their meow!
In English we have been reflecting on this terms work and set personal targets for the next half term. We ended the week with a debate on 'No Pens Day' in response to the motion: 'This house believes that workhouses were good for Victorian society'. In Drama, we learnt some of the culture and history behind shadow puppets. We then got into groups to decide on an Aesop's Fable to focus on in preparation for our project after half term.
In Maths, we have spent some time learning about Proportion and the unitary method. We have noticed how we can use ratios to help us adjust recipes for different numbers of people. In Latin, we completed a translation which focused on prepositions. Minimus and Vibrissa, the mouse and cat in our text book, were in full Tom and Jerry mode as they demonstrated under, on top of, near, away from etc in relation to a ballista catapult!
In French, we have finished our topic on height and personality, describing ourselves and others. We created a comic strip using full sentences, the verb être in the present tense, and adjectives in their masculine and feminine forms. We are excited to start Spanish next half term! Finally, in Science, we wrapped up our topic on Properties of Materials and took time to review and consolidate our learning from the past few weeks. In Computing, we focused on internet safety, going over important and useful tips on how to stay safe online.
Have a great half term break.
