Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
It has been a brilliant week of learning!
In English, we continued to explore the poetry of Joseph Coelho, focusing on his piece about Richmond Park. This led us to research the park in more detail, including a fascinating video narrated by David Attenborough. We learnt about its wildlife, history, and the importance of preserving it. Using this knowledge, we then created our own informative leaflets. Drama rehearsals for Pantastic are going brilliantly! We are now focusing on expression, ensuring our voices, faces, and movements bring our characters to life.
In maths, we tackled measurement, reading tricky scales with missing numbers and calculating the perimeter and area of rectilinear shapes. Science was particularly engaging as we investigated how states of matter can change. We melted white, milk, and dark chocolate to compare their melting points and observe how different ingredients affect the process.
History was a fantastic creative session as we designed our own Aztec shields, decorated with bold patterns and striking colours. In geography, we examined the key factors early settlers considered when choosing a location and compared them with modern-day priorities.
A highlight of the week was taking part in our whole-school No Pens Day event. We developed our communication skills in creative ways—describing objects without key words, using only gestures to give origami instructions, and carefully counting to 20 as a class through teamwork and focus. Show and Tell was also a great success, with fascinating items shared and discussed.
We wish you all a restful half term with your families.
