Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
In our final week of this half term, we marked Safer Internet Day with a special assembly and related activities. The pupils entered into the friendly competitive spirit, with the House ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ challenge and very much enjoyed their Outdoor Learning day on Thursday, where they made and tested catapults as a practical conclusion to our Materials topic. We rounded off the half term with a fun and creative No Pens Day.
In Maths this week, the children worked on honing addition and subtraction skills, with a focus on employing strategies such as using inverses for checking and spotting number bonds and doubles, to make adding three numbers easier. In English, we focused on instructions. The children learnt about imperative verbs and the features of instructions. The children practised following instructions by working in pairs, sitting back to back. They took turns drawing a lighthouse and describing it to their partner, who attempted to replicate the image based on the spoken instructions. Afterwards, they wrote their own instructions for making a lighthouse sandwich, created it, and enjoyed sampling their efforts. In History, we ended our Great Fire of London topic with a look at how the city was rebuilt. The children took on the role of architects, and in pairs, planned their own redesign of London.
The pupils have certainly earned their week of rest and relaxation after an action-packed half term! We hope you all have a wonderful half term break.
