Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
It was lovely to welcome the Year 1 children back to school, bursting with tales of their Christmas holidays, and full of energy for the new term.
Our current English text is ‘Dear Fairy Godmother’ and the children enjoyed listening to the alternative advice given to a range of fairy tale characters by the wise godmother. We completed a comprehension task, created freeze-frames of scenes from the book, and thought of our own advice to share with the characters. In Maths, we reviewed ordering numbers, recognising odd and even numbers and sequencing patterns, to kick off the term.
Our Science focus is on animals, so we began by learning the differences between amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish and mammals. In History, we were introduced to our new topic, ‘The History of Transport’, while in Geography we learnt the terms ‘arable’, ‘livestock’ and ‘dairy’ as we begin our study of farming.
Well done for such a confident and enthusiastic start to the term, Year 1! Have a wonderful weekend.
