Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
10th January 2025
Happy New Year!
I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful Christmas break and are feeling rejuvenated and excited to be back for another term full of Willington's unique charm.
As we step into 2025, we are also stepping into a significant milestone—140 years since the inception of our beloved school by sisters Annie and Ada Hale at 3 Dealtry Road, Putney. Just three years after its founding, Willington secured its first scholarship recipient at Merchant Taylors’, none other than Dr F G Whipple, who went on to achieve a distinguished career in science. To this day, his name graces the honours boards in the main hall, a testament to the enduring legacy and the heights Willington scholars can reach.
As we celebrate this 140th anniversary, it's a poignant time to reflect on the rich history of our school. Surviving two world wars and numerous other challenges, Willington has demonstrated resilience and strength that inspire us to overcome current challenges. Let us embrace this year not only as a celebration of our past accomplishments but also as an opportunity to look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
We kick off the year with a special mufti day honouring the children of Tenzing House in recognition of their stellar achievements last term. Much excitement lies ahead this term, and I anticipate the competition heating up in the coming weeks. The House system plays a crucial role, not only in creating a sense of belonging to the school, but also in building bonds between housemates across all year groups. It also serves as an invaluable mentoring system, bringing together children from across the school with a shared sense of purpose and camaraderie.
As we strive to reduce our email traffic, please remember to review the 'Week Ahead' sections for your child’s year group, and updates in art, music, and sport.
I look forward to catching up with many of you over the term. In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend. KB
