We have all had a great first term. The children have all settled into their class, worked hard and participated fully in activities.
The children worked extremely hard and enjoyed performing in our amazing concert. We have some budding actors and actresses at White Rose. Well done children!
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during the first term and to wish you all a Happy New Year!
Foundation Phase teaching staff will be working and planning together weekly to ensure there is progression and consistency between year groups.
Homework
Each child will be given a learning log. Homework will be set every Friday and must be returned by Wednesday morning.
PE
Your child will have PE weekly. Please provide your child with PE clothing i.e. shorts and a plain white t-shirt. However, no trainers will be required for this term. They will leave it on their peg up until half term.
Topics
Our Spring topic will be ‘On your Bike’. Dosbarth Melyn will be studying countries around the world and transport.
Literacy
Many of our literacy lessons will be based on Non-Chronological writing about Wolves and diary writing. We will be writing reports and diaries.
Maths
Your child will work on reciting numbers to 100 from any given number. Learn about halving and doubling numbers to within 10. They will also learn their 2 x tables.
Science
We will be focusing on ‘Forces’.
RE/PSHE
We will be looking at ‘Special Times’ in RE and ‘living long, living strong in PSHE.’
Reading
Your child will need to bring their reading books into class daily.
Children are also placed in groups for Guided Group Reading sessions with Mrs C Wall and Mrs Doyle each week. These sessions focus on developing children’s reading and comprehension skills.
As a school, we are very keen to promote the importance of reading and you can help you child by reading to them, as well as listening to them read and visiting the library.
Please make sure that you sign your child’s reading record each time you read with them and include any details of things they do well or aspects they have struggled with.
We will then be able to change their books weekly.
Spellings -Your child will come home with a list of spellings every Friday and will have weekly spelling tests every Friday morning. Please help your child to learn them.
