Homework/Home School Tasks
Nursery pupils are not set homework, but on occasions a home school task may be sent home.
Rights of the child
In the Foundation phase classes, we have been focusing upon Article 3 Best interest of the child and Article 31 Leisure, play and culture linked to the rights of the child.
We have been ensuring that children and staff within our classes are kept safe during these difficult and challenging times. We have ensured that children are aware of the reasons for frequent handwashing and the need for staff to wear face masks when completing work with them close up.
Children have been engaged in our topic linked to seize the seasons. They have been involved in learning about celebrations and events which are important to them for example, birthdays, Halloween etc. Children have been developing their social skills through play based authentic learning experiences.
Literacy
Many of our literacy lessons will be based on/around the country we will be visiting through our story book Granny went to Market. We will be sequencing stories, writing postcards holiday lists, passports etc and talking about their own holiday experiences, The children will continue their phonic knowledge development through letters and sounds as well as recognition/spelling of own names. They will also be given the opportunity to retell stories through role play activities and story maps.
Maths Children continue to develop their counting and recognition of numbers to 5/10 and beyond. They count, order, and sort these numbers as well as recognising and naming colours and 2d/3d shapes. Children continue to develop an understanding of measure by using direct comparison and nonstandard measuring as well as using positional language. Children will also continue to use TAPAS activities.
Science We will be focusing on sinking/floating activities, full/empty, freezing and melting. As well as any cooking activities.

Reading
Children are given a library book each week. Please make sure that you make a comment in the reading record book so we know if your child enjoyed their book. Books bags will be given out on a Monday (or collected from the box at the back of the cloackroom area, and brought back on a Friday.
A lot of the topics that are covered in Dosbarth Enfys are related to story books, so the children are exposed to a wide variety of reading materials and read to regularly by the Class Teacher or TA’s. The classroom has a reading area that children can access anytime time of the day. This enables the children to have as much opportunity as they can to develop their reading experiences.
As a school we are very keen to promote the importance of reading and you can help your child by reading to them, as well as listening to them read and visiting the library.
