Dosbarth Glas

Welcome to Dosbarth Glas! This year, Mrs N Lewis

For weekly updates please follow us on twitter:  @dosbarthglaswrp

We anticipate lots of interesting new challenges ahead that we are sure the children will enjoy.

We look forward to continuing to work with you over this term to build on your child’s skills and support them in their journey together.

In Dosbarth Glas our theme is ‘How to live our BEST life?’

Article 29: We have the right to be the best we can be.

One of our first activities of the school year was to fill our ‘dream tree’ with our targets.  Children were asked to think of one thing they would like to achieve this year.  This could be personal, physical or educational.  Here are some examples of their ‘dreams’ for the end of the academic year.

Ø  To get better at American football

Ø  To be able to do wheelies on my bike

Ø  To improve my writing

Ø  To improve my maths

Ø  To get difficult spellings right

 Homework

All homework is given on a Monday and should be returned on a Friday.

PE

Literacy

 Maths

Your child will continue to work on the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 10 times tables. We will be developing our number skills such as measuring length and mass. We will be applying these skills to real life situations.

 ICT

This term for ICT we will be looking at working on data handling using J2 data..

 Trips

We will confirm details of our trip shortly.

Reading

Your child will no longer be following the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme. KS2 are going to be following the Accelerated Reading program which assesses each child and provides them with a level based upon their understanding of texts. The program uses 'real' books in the aim of developing children's understanding of texts and encouraging an enthusiasm for reading in the hope that children will become life-long readers.

Reading books must be returned to school daily as all children read quietly or with a partner for a brief period each day.

Children are also placed in groups for Guided Group Reading sessions with me each week. Sessions focus on developing children's reading and comprehension skills.

As a school we are very keen to promote the importance of reading and you can help your child by reading to them, listening to them read and visiting the library.

Please make sure that you sign your child's reading record each time you read with them and include any details of things they do well or aspects they have struggled with.
