Insurance
Insurance protects the District by reducing its exposure to the liability of providers from whom it obtains goods and services. Risk exposure is a consequence of the goods and services that the District is obtaining from the provider, not their cost. Exposure to risk arises from the possibility of loss and the probable severity of injuries or property damage if loss occurs.
The District has a broad and complex blanket of property insurance coverage of all campuses as well as support facilities.
The District purchases the following insurance coverage from our contracted vendor:
- Automobile Liability
- Privacy and Information Security
- Crime
- Excess Workers Compensation
- General Liability
- Inland Marine
- Professional (Educator) Liability
- Property Liability
Any incidents and/or accidents should be reported to the Risk and Contract Management Office as soon as the event becomes known.
Everyone Who Does Business with
Our School District Must Have Insurance
Failure to obtain evidence of insurance creates a financial exposure to the district and could be considered “an unlawful gift of public funds”. Note - this requirement applies to a business that is not being paid as well (ie: they are bringing equipment, etc… including a commercial vehicle onto District property).
Vendors with no employees; e.g., consultants, teachers, etc. may not have sufficient insurance to meet the district’s requirements. Risk and Contract Management is the only department that may issue waivers. Waivers may be used that address the following:
Vendor will hold the district harmless for injury to the vendor and any employees and damage to the vendor’s property.
The vendor will be responsible for injury or damage to the district and others, including district employees.
The vendor is not an employee of the district, and the district is not responsible for group life and health insurance, worker’s compensation, unemployment insurance or any other benefits associated with full-time employment.
Vendor will abide by the procedures and policies of the district.
Campus Principals should always secure a certificate of insurance (with WFISD named as an additional insured), contract (reviewed by the Risk and Contract Manager), and any necessary waivers/releases during the planning period for a special activity and/or event with a vendor.
Please review the District Policy GKD Exhibit B Liability Insurance Requirements for more information.
Public school districts are immune for bodily injury to students and the public (except for limited liability for negligent operation and use of a motorized vehicle) as provided in the Texas Tort Claims Act §101.021 and § 101.051.
Wichita Falls ISD Staff - please check the live certificate of liability list to confirm your vendor is in compliance.
