The purpose of the electronic teaching portfolio is to demonstrate your professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions to another professional educator. Your e-portfolio is a snapshot of your best practices as a student teacher and should give compelling evidence of the seven California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs). Successful completion and presentation of the ePortfolio is required to pass your seminar course and to complete your teacher preparation program.
Every portfolio should have eight pages: one introductory home page and seven pages for each of the seven TPEs. Instructions for the content of each page and suggested artifacts can be found on the corresponding pages of this website. You will also find general instructions for your reflections on each page, the rubric used to assess your portfolio, and a variety of prior candidate examples below.

Write a 400-600 word reflection, an analysis and evaluation of professional practice, supported by at least three artifacts for each of the seven teacher performance expectations (TPEs). Highlight the depth of your knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to this professional area and provide professional artifacts (e.g., images, lesson plans, documents, videos) that demonstrate your competency as a teacher.
Remember that your audience is another education professional (professors, colleagues, principals, and/or district personnel). Aim for a professional tone. You may use first person to allow your voice to emerge.
For each artifact, explain what the artifact is, and reflect on how this artifact exemplifies a competency in your teacher preparation. If you elect to include an assignment from a credential course, update and revise the work so it does not appear as an “assignment” but rather evidence of professional practice.
Respect confidentiality. Mark through names of students on any student papers, student scores, or any other information that could identify a student in your class or in the school. Check with the administrator in your school regarding policies that govern the publishing of pictures or images of students, and be sure to obtain written approval form the administrator before posting to your ePortfolio. When in doubt, do not use a student’s image.
Be sure to edit for grammar, flow, and typographical errors.
