On my hand.
Showing the seams. The gloves really are a tomato/ orangy red.
I added ribbons with aglets to help keep them together.
Three fingered or split gloves were just a fun experiment to see how convenient and comfortable they were. It started with a peak into working class accessories, and I was intrigued. Especially when I realized that these gloves were used for about 250 years, and all the way from working class up to middle and all across western Europe. They can be seen in documents of calendars and other paintings from 1325-1533 (See documentation links and photos).
I wanted some warm things for my hands in cooler weather, and I love these versatile gloves as I do like to have different styles and areas of concentration. Unfortunately I did not take pictures of the process of making the gloves.
I used a lightweight wool for the outer later, lined with a very soft linen and trimmed with gold shot silk. I added a ribbon to keep them together when not in use. These were a quick project and only took a few hours to put together. I drafted out a pattern and adjusted as I went. I ended up with 4 shaped pieces for each hand. I hand sewed and hand finished the entire set.
