We are trying very hard to make people notice this problem, and to do something about it.
Here is the PSA our class made about the dangers of getting bit by a tick!
So our class is working very hard to make this dangerous disease avoidable!
Fun Facts:
> Ticks have three stages: Larva, nymph, and adult. Each time they have a blood meal, they go up a stage.
> If you are bitten by a Larva, you most likely will not have Lyme disease, because that tick has not gotten its first meal yet to become infected with Lyme Disease.
> it takes 36 to 48 hours (or about one and a half of a day to two days) for a tick to drop off of a host, so your safe before that time.
Our class is a fifth grade class of 22 students in the small town of Wellesley, Massachusetts. We are working hard to make projects on Lyme Disease. We have studied Lyme Disease for 10 weeks, and have met popular scientists and journalist such as: Mary Beth Pfeiffer, Dr. Richard Ostfeld, Brandi Dean (founder of The Dean Center for Tick Borne Illness), Olivia Goodreau, (the founder of Tick Tracker and LivLime Foundation), the Health Director of Hopkinton (Shaun McAuliffe) AND Health Director of Wellesley, Massachusetts (Lenny Izzo). In fact, we even had a group of students present at the Town Hall to the Board of Selectmen and more than 50 people! We are doing this to warn people that are curious, and don’t know enough about this atrocious epidemic that is spreading world wide…
Here is a link to Tick Tracker!
Click here or search up TickTracker on your browser!
This is the app called TickTracker. TickTracker is an efficient way to check where recent victims have found a tick. Usually, if you found a tick in a specific area, there are probably more! The more people that download this and use it, the better!
Our class went to the government of Wellesley! Click the link below to see what happened!
