Take the problem 1/2 Ă· 1/8. If we ask the question "how many times will 1/8 fit into 1/2?" it's easy to see the answer is 4!
Dividing fractions is closely related to multiplying fractions, thanks to a little thing called the Reciprocal Rule of Division. The rule makes two important points relating to division with fractions:
Any division problem can be stated as a fraction (and vice versa)
Any fraction can be restated as the dividend times the reciprocal of the divisor
