TLDR
Khan's Mastery Learning is closely aligned to the Common Core, giving students another option to show they exceed one or more standards (what I call "Go For 4"). If you are willing to put in the time and effort, Khan Academy will help you learn.

Khan assigns three performance levels for skills. If you get a few wrong, it will rank you as "Familiar." If I see you as Familiar in a skill, I will give you a 2.5 rating - starting to get the idea, but not all the way there. Getting all the questions right bumps you up to "Proficient." Proficient means that you meet grade-level understanding for the concept or skill. The highest level in Khan Academy is called Mastery. Achieving mastery of a skill
standards found this in the Courses section of your KA home page, where it was called "Getting Ready for 6th Grade" (I like my name better). You may have noticed another course called simply "6th Grade." By the end of this year, I want every student to rule BOTH these courses...or more
Khan Academy on your iPad has two main areas - Classes and Courses.
Classes You can ignore assignments in your Class section UNLESS I also assign them in Google Classroom. The other "assignments" are there because they might help you level up in your Standards Progress Report.
Courses
UPDATE: Several students have exceeded my expectations by achieving mastery for 6th, Getting Ready for 7th Grade, and 7th Grade!

I will sometimes assign a practice exercise or two and/or a short video in Khan Academy as required work
If it's an assigned video, watch it (not optional). It may sound like what we did in class - that's on purpose
If it's practice exercises, keep trying until you score at least 80% (ideally, go for a perfect 100!).
Khan Academy shows me your highest score
If you are stumped (or just a little unsure) about a problem, use the hints or suggested video. Still have questions? Ask me!
Assignments on the list in Khan Academy that are NOT in Google Classroom are optional, but will help you improve your mastery score (see Part 2 below)
Use The Help Tools!
You'll see warnings that you'll need to repeat the exercise.
But you'll have to do it again anyway if you get it wrong.
Take the extra 2 minutes to see how to get it right!
I Recommend You Skip to the Hints
Khan will encourage you to watch the video again, but the hints are more specific
