Technology & Internet Integration & Safety

Technology/Internet Safety

Weehawken High School is committed to providing students access to the latest and most efficient instructional technology. Weehawken is becoming a statewide leader in the adoption and integration of instructional technology, web-based project-based learning, and Web 2.0 formative assessment practices. Weehawken is a 100% Google Applications for Education district. Each student will be provided with a Chromebook and Gmail account by September 2016.

Through implementation of our Technology Priorities, the district will remain committed to integrate technology into every aspect of the curriculum and into every learning environment. Maintaining the technology infrastructure is necessary for students and educators to access electronic information and to communicate effectively through technology. Students will obtain the educational technology and information literacy skills that will assist them in achieving the Core Curriculum and Common Core Standards and to succeed in the workplace of the twenty-first century. Educators will maintain the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively use educational technology to assist students to achieve the Core Curriculum Standards.

All use of the district's connection to the Internet must be in support of education and/or research. The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right and general and specific rules of behavior and communications will apply when using the Internet. Electronic communications, e-mail, and downloaded material may be monitored or read by school officials. Each student and his/her parent or guardian must sign an "Authorization for Internet Access" before being granted unsupervised use. The failure of any student to follow the terms of the "Authorization for Internet Access" policy will result in the loss of privileges, disciplinary action and/or appropriate legal action. This district is in complete compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) which requires the use of filtering and monitoring software, annual review of policy and procedures, a Board of Education resolution affirming compliance, public meetings, staff/student instruction, and additional measures to ensure Internet safety and protection for our students.
