State Testing
The Weehawken School District, along with all school districts in New Jersey, will be administering New Jersey Standards Learning Assessment testing. NJSLA has developed a common set of assessments in English and Math anchored in what it takes to be ready for college and careers. This assessment will build a pathway to college and career readiness by the end of high school, mark students’ progress toward this goal, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support. The NJSLA enables students, including students with disabilities, in the classes of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 to demonstrate proficiencies in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics required by state statute for high school graduation via NJSLA. In addition to the NJSLA assessments, students can demonstrate proficiency via a menu of substitute assessments or by meeting the criteria of the NJDOE portfolio appeal process. The full list of assessments that enable students to demonstrate proficiency in ELA and Math are as follows:
As per the chart below, the PSAT is now included as an option for students to meet the graduation assessment requirement. Weehawken HS will administer the PSAT to all 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders in October.
Following the NJSLA, the Weehawken School District has committed to building a K-12 assessment system that:
•Builds a pathway to college and career readiness for all students,
•Creates high-quality assessments that measure the full range of the NJSLA,
•Supports educators in the classroom,
•Makes better use of technology in assessments, and
•Advances accountability at all levels.
