Safety Definition:

All persons involved feel both physically and psychologically safe. This principle is the most important and has the highest priority of all principles since safety is required for the implementation of the other five principles.

Physical Safety

To establish physical safety, leaders should:

  • Allow all staff members an opportunity to share safety concerns

  • Establish a crisis team

  • Create Site Specific Safety Procedures

  • Create School Emergency Plans

  • Involve Safety Partner

Psychological Safety

To establish psychological safety, leaders should:

  • Provide information about employee assistance programs

  • Ensure Staff consistency

  • Staff should have unified goals towards the safety of themselves and others in their workplace.

  • Provide opportunities for collaboration

  • Create internal support groups for shared experiences
