Our  science unit of study is Earth's Systems

ESS.1.2.1

• Emphasis is on physical properties (e.g. color, size, shape, texture, state of matter, attraction to magnets, floating or sinking in water, flexibility).

• Students know earth materials include rocks, minerals, soil, (are solids, as they retain their shape) and water (liquid, as it takes the shape of a container).

• Students know rocks are made up of one or more minerals.

ESS.1.2.2

• Emphasis is that soil has different characteristics that affect plants.

• Students know that soils have different properties based on where they are located on the earth. 

• Students know that earth materials have different properties that sustain plant and animal life. 

• Students describe similarities and differences between various earth materials (e.g. size, shape, texture)
