Our science unit of study is Earth's Systems
ESS.1.2.1
Emphasis is on physical properties (e.g. color, size, shape, texture, state of matter, attraction to magnets, floating or sinking in water, flexibility).
Students know earth materials include rocks, minerals, soil, (are solids, as they retain their shape) and water (liquid, as it takes the shape of a container).
Students know rocks are made up of one or more minerals.
ESS.1.2.2
Emphasis is that soil has different characteristics that affect plants.
Students know that soils have different properties based on where they are located on the earth.
Students know that earth materials have different properties that sustain plant and animal life.
Students describe similarities and differences between various earth materials (e.g. size, shape, texture)
