Our first unit is Motion and Stability.
By the end of this unit, students will understand that...
Emphasis is on the causal relationship of a push or pull (e.g. direct contact, or at a distance such as magnets) on changes to an object’s motion.
Students know a force is a push or a pull.
Students pushing or pulling on an object can make it move, stop it from moving, or change its direction.
Students describe the way objects move.
Students know pushes and pulls can happen with contact (e.g., kicking a ball) or at a distance (e.g., magnets).
Emphasis is on doing activities with objects where the motion is based on the amount of force applied and recording the resulting effect.
Students describe how the amount of force changes the motion of an object (e.g,. larger, smaller, harder, softer, gentle).
Students communicate (verbally or visually) how the applied forces cause different motions/effects.
