Phonemic Awareness/Heggerty: Students will be recognizing and producing rhyming words, isolating phonemes for consonants, and vowels, blending words with 2-3 phonemes, blending, segmenting, adding, deleting, and substituting within syllables, isolating initial, medial and final sounds, and adding, deleting, and substituting initial phonemes. Students will also be producing rhymes, isolating initial digraphs and blends. They will also work to add/delete and substitute initial phonemes within the spoken word.
Word Recognition/Letterland: Students will to learn the sound/spelling relationships for short vowel word families, digraphs and suffix s (ad,ap,at,ack,am, an,ck,ix, in,ick,th, ock, op, ot, ell, et, en, ll, ug, un, ut, -s,). They will also learn the sound/spelling relationships for vowel sounds, digraphs, final y and -all.
Language Comprehension/Close Read: Students will engage in learning and discussion through interactive read aloud and integrated speaking/language/writing experiences to explore habits of character which lead to a classroom culture built for learning.
Writing: Students will begin to experience the writing units which include foundational lessons focused on letter formation, sentence construction and composition lessons focused on the writing process. They will work on a culminating task unit to write an informational text: All About Magnets.
