This quarter our unit is Earth's Place in the Universe.
Students will understand that...
Emphasis is on the features of the day sky (The sun can be seen only in the daytime, but the moon can be seen sometimes at night and sometimes during the day) and night sky (The moon and stars can be seen during the night).
Students describe features of the day sky (e.g. sun).Â
Students describe features of the night sky (e.g. stars, moon).
Students record observations on changes in the day and night sky over a period of time (e.g. observations can be recorded as a chart and/ or picture).
Students know the sun is at different positions in the sky at different times of the day, appearing to rise in one part of the sky in the morning and appearing to set in another part of the sky in the evening.
Students know the moon is at different positions in the sky at different times of the day or night, appearing to rise in one part of the sky and appearing to set in another part of the sky.
Emphasis is on the observable pattern of the changing appearance of the moon over a period of time.
Students observe that the moon looks a little different every day but looks the same again about every four weeks.
