Strong partnerships between home and school begin with clear communication. We use a variety of tools to help families stay informed and connected:
District and School Website — Visit wccsk12.org for school calendars, events, and district-wide news.
School or Classroom Newsletters — Newsletters may be shared via folders, email, or through your child’s classroom updates.
District App (Rooms) — Download the Wayland-Cohocton Central School app (available for Apple or Android). The app provides access to school updates, calendars, and the Rooms messaging platform.
Thrillshare — Is used for district-wide alerts via email, push notifications, and social media.
Staff Communications — Teachers, counselors and administrators may contact families using Rooms, phone calls, or email, or meeting with parents in person depending on the purpose of the communication.
We use a secure system called Rooms to make it easier for families to stay in touch with teachers, coaches, and advisors — all through our Wayland-Cohocton Central School app.
What to know about Rooms:
You can access Rooms through the district app or from a web browser.
You'll need to create a login and password to get started.
Teachers, advisors, and coaches use Rooms to message parents and students.
As of March 2025, students (typically MS & HS students) can also use Rooms to stay connected with extracurriculars and athletics.

Teacher Response Time & Urgent Messages
Teachers are responsible for their full class during the school day and are not able to respond to calls, emails, or messages during instructional time. Our goal is to respond to parent communication as soon as possible within a 24–48 hour window (during school hours).
Urgent messages—especially dismissal changes—must go through the main office, not through Rooms or staff email, to ensure they are received and handled promptly.

🎯
We believe strong communication is a two-way partnership between home and school. In today’s world, tone and intent can easily be misunderstood through email, messaging apps, or social media, so we encourage families and staff alike to seek clarity, ask questions, and—whenever possible—connect in person or by phone when concerns arise.
If something isn’t working for your child or family, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Most concerns are best resolved by starting with the person most directly involved—whether it’s your child’s teacher, a related service provider, or a school staff member. This approach helps us problem-solve together and builds trust through open, respectful conversation.
We’re all working toward the same goal: helping every student thrive. Thank you for partnering with us in communication that is timely, respectful, and focused on student success.
Our SchoolTool Parent Portal allows families to securely view important student information all in one place. Parents/guardians can see student demographics, contacts, attendance, report cards, schedules, and assignments.
Please note that features vary by grade level — for example, elementary students may not have schedules or assignments posted, but these will appear as students move into middle and high school.
We encourage all families to use the portal regularly to keep emergency contact information up to date and to stay informed about their child’s school experience.
