At Wayland-Cohocton Elementary, technology supports learning — it doesn’t replace it. Students are expected to use their school-issued devices responsibly and with care.
Each student is assigned a Chromebook to use for classroom tasks, online learning platforms, and skill practice.
To keep devices and tools in good working order:
Chromebooks that go home nightly, should be charged each night at home and brought to school daily.
Students should use their devices only for school-related tasks only.
Headphones, chargers, and devices should be treated with care.
Students will be expected to store devices properly when not in use.
Families may be billed for damage or lost items, including:
Chromebooks
Headphones
Chargers or cords
🔧
If a Chromebook is not working properly, families should email:
Chromebooksupport@wccsk12.org
We encourage families to support consistent tech routines at home in cases where Chromebooks come home:
Create a charging station where the Chromebook stays at night.
Set a habit of placing the device in the backpack each morning.
Supervise Chromebook use when used at home — it should be for schoolwork only.
Reinforce that devices are not for gaming, YouTube, or general browsing.
When students build these routines, they’re more prepared and focused at school.
In Grade 4, students may use Google Classroom to manage classwork. If you're unfamiliar with this platform, here’s a quick video to help:

While Chromebooks are an essential part of learning at school, personal internet-enabled devices from home — like smartphones and smartwatches — are not allowed for use during the school day. This aligns with New York State’s updated policy to reduce distractions and support focused learning.
We appreciate your support in helping students follow school expectations and build healthy tech habits from a young age!
