All staff have 2 primary network storage locations. Your personal storage, sometimes referred to as W: drive, consists of your Windows Desktop and Documents folders. These are synced network folders which are backed up 3 times a day, as detailed below in Previous Versions. We encourage you to save important files into one of these two folders so that they remain secure and retrievable. Google drive and other cloud based storage are not sufficient options for long term storage as they are stored on servers not under the control of our organisation, and we have limited access to their backup systems.
You will also have access to the common files, X:Drive, which is a shared network drive. This is a secure location for departments and faculties to store collaborative and shared files. Please consult with your head teacher regarding department usage standards of this folder.
Your network drive (Documents and Desktop Folders) as well as X:Drive (Common FIles) have snapshots recorded 3 times a day, which generally goes back about 2 weeks.
If you require a previous version of a file, right click on the parent folder, and select properties.
In the properties window, select the Previous Versions tab.
This will display the snapshots available for the folder labelled with a time and date. Select the desired date/time and press open.
You can either copy and paste from this folder to the most current location, or you can choose to press the restore button which will revert the entire folder back to the snapshot selected.
