Extensions in Google Chrome

You can add extensions and apps to the Google Chrome browser to increase the features and functionality, and improve your workflow.

Extensions allow you to “hack” Google Chrome to add features you want and keep your browser free of things you don't use. Extensions can be used to block advertisements, convert files (eg convert a webpage to a pdf), shorten URLs, add an emoji keyboard, etc

Adding Extensions to Google Chrome

Chrome Extensions are added using the Chrome Web Store. To access and use the web store follow the steps below

Visit the Chrome Web Store by clicking the Apps button, from your bookmarks bar, then webstore. (See image to right)
Find and select the extension/app you want using search or browse the categories. HINT: Apps are rated by current users. Look for apps with lots of users and high star ratings.
Click Add to Chrome.
A dialog will appear to show you data that the extension will be able to access.
Click Add to grant the extension access to your data and install the extension.

There are many extensions which can help you in being more productive in Google Chrome.

Google Dictionary - Highlight and hover your cursor over a word and the definition will appear in a call out box.

Save to Google Drive - allows you to save content directly from the web to your Google Drive

AdBlock Plus - removes many ads from webpages

goo.gl URL Shortener - provides a short link to webpages and can generate QR codes

Share to Classroom - gives you a direct link to Google Classroom to share content

Emoji for Google Chrome - Provides an emoji keyboard which you can use to add emoji to docs or other webpages
