This is the well-known story of Juliet Capulet and her love for Romeo. It also the story about the increasing helplessness Juliet feels as she realises that unlike young women her age, her life will effectively be determined and controlled by others, who see her having an arranged marriage of alliance and becoming a breeder of sons. I am Juliet closely follows the well-known and loved plot of the play, but we also see the point of view of Rob, the thirteen-year-old boy who is the first to play the role of Juliet on the Elizabethan stage. Like many young people today, he too is overwhelmed by 'all those words' that Shakespeare wrote. But Rob realises that the story of love and tragedy is a somewhat simple one and the words are there for their extraordinary beauty and meaning. He will be Juliet and let the power of the words sing - as they still do today.

She is the girl who will be queen: Ophelia, daughter of Denmarks lord chancellor and loved by Prince Hamlet. But while Hamlets family stab, poison or haunt one another, Ophelia plans a sensible rule, one filled with justice and the making of delicious cheeses. Even if she has to pretend to be mad to make it happen, Ophelia will let nothing, not even howling ghosts, stand in her way. This is Shakespeares play, but with what might also have happened behind the scenes. And this story has a happy ending

A searing story of passion, betrayal, battles and love, this is Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' stripped of superstition, and its power and beauty refined into fewer words where good balances the evil and there is a happy ending - for some. Following on from OPHELIA, QUEEN OF DENMARK and I AM JULIET, this is the third title in the series for young people that focuses on the reinterpretation of Shakespeare's classic and enduring plays. 'I didn't mean to do it'. Annie is not a witch, but when her mistress Lady Macbeth calls for a potion to 'stiffen Macbeth's sinews', Annie is caught up in plots that lead to murder, kingship and betrayal. Annie must also not only choose between Rab the Blacksmith and Murdoch, Thane of Greymouth, but discover where her loyalty lies

Choose your own path .........

in the Freedom Finders series by Emily Conolan

"To Find Freedom, you must leave behind everything you've ever known"

Choose your own destiny and follow the exciting twists and turns

A series for older readers.

Your auntie is a journalist in your war-torn home country of Somalia, and you want nothing more than to follow in her footsteps.  But getting too close to the truth can burn you: and when you’re left alone to look after your little sister Jamilah, you find yourself facing life-or-death choices at every turn.

Will you ever find a place that is safe to call home?  You’ll be asked to cross deserts on foot; hide below deck in a leaky boat; and put your life in the hands of people smugglers.

You are thirteen years old.  You and Ma have survived on the streets of London ever since the soldiers took Da away.  Now, with Ma gone too, you find yourself facing life-or-death choices at every turn.

Can you carry a secret treasure across the oceans and finally be reunited with Da?  You’ll be asked to betray your friends; trust thieves; survive storms at sea and attacks by bushrangers.

At every turn, the choice is yours.  How far will you go for freedom?

It is 1943. During the war, you rescue and hide an Australian airman near your small Italian village. He tells you that you can be anything you dream of - but those dreams are fast slipping away. As you make the leap for a new life, you find yourself facing life-and-death choices at every turn.

Can you overthrow the curse of bad luck that has plagued your family and prove yourself in a new land? You'll be asked to stand up to bullies, stage a mutiny, and make your contribution to one of the greatest engineering projects the world has ever seen.
