Students in Year 10 are provided with an overall grounding in academic work, studying each of the eight Learning Areas outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum: English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Technology, Languages, Arts, and Social Sciences. Options are offered in Social Sciences, Arts, and Languages.
Please realise that choosing not to take a subject may mean it cannot be picked up later. This applies to most languages as well as some other subjects. Explore this guide, but also have discussions with key staff to enable a planned decision for the course of study selected.
As a Year 10 student you will study:
English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Technology,
You will choose ONE full-year Arts course:
Art, Music General, Music Rock Band, or Drama
You will choose ONE full-year Language course:
Chinese, French, Japanese, German, Spanish, Samoan, or English Language
You will choose TWO semester Social Science courses:
Commerce, Geography, or History
Supported Learning (by invitation):
Literacy (half year, instead of one Social Science), Integrated Studies (full year, instead of a Language, or half year, instead of one Social Science).
Academies (by application only):
Sports Academy
