Performing Arts Academy - Music strands aims to further develop our top performing musicians through practical master classes, group performances, and collaboration.
Professional musicians and musical educators will conduct a range of regular masterclasses throughout the year as well as student attebding performances and other opportunities.
Developing practical skills in jazz ensemble playing and improvisation is a key focus, but we encourage students from all musical backgrounds to apply.
The Academy is open to students from year 10 - 13. Sessions run twice a week run in addition to the regular timetable. One session will be after school on Thursdays and one in the Period 1 time on Friday mornings.

Full year course
Performing Arts Academy - Māori Performing Arts strand aims to further develop our top performers through practical master classes, performances, and collaboration.
Student will work closely with tutors from Te Heata Awatea and other performers to fruether develop skills in Kapa Haka, Mau Rākau, and other aspects of Toi Māori. The Academy is open to students from year 10 - 13. Sessions will run one lunchtime per week plus an additional session and/or noho each term.

Professionals from the local and national industry will conduct a range of regular masterclasses throughout the year as well as student attending performances and other opportunities.
Acting and stage performance is a key focus, but we encourage students from all theatre/drama backgrounds to apply.

Sports Academy
Full year course
The Junior Sports Academy starts with fitness testing to establish a performance baseline. Students complete an online module with James Blackwell, learning about high-performance sport and mindset. A discussion-based leadership session with NZRU helps build teamwork, communication, and character.
Ongoing Healthfit training sessions develop strength, movement, and fitness, supported by regular testing. The programme also covers sports psychology, nutrition, and independent or sport-specific training. A guest speaker or senior mentor shares insights on balance, commitment, and growth.
Recommended Prior Learning:
None - Students must be keen to improve within their sports. Preference is given to higher level athletes.

Outcomes
The goal of the Junior Academy is to develop an understanding of resistance training (through bodyweight) and how it improves movement and physical skills. The programme also includes sports psychology, stretching, and fitness testing, while encouraging students to build resilience, discipline, and character through consistent engagement and effort.

Full year course
The Y11 Sports Academy begins with an introduction and initial fitness testing, followed by student-led sessions on the components of fitness. Students also develop leadership through group-led, sport-based activities, supported by regular active and self-reflection.
The programme includes ongoing fitness development, using tests like the Broad Jump, Bronco Test, and medicine ball throw to track progress. Students explore key theoretical areas such as anatomy, biomechanics, and exercise physiology, with concepts applied through practical sessions.
Throughout the year, students engage in Healthfit gym training, sport-specific skill development (including AFL), and apply the Sports Education Model to build teamwork, responsibility, and game understanding.
The programme combines physical training, theoretical learning, and character development to support all-round athletic growth.

1Full year course
The Level 2 Academy of Sport course caters for aspiring athletes who are motivated and passionate about their chosen sport(s). It is based in the Frank Crist Centre(FCC). Here, students will have access to training facilities and resources. This includes a personalised strength and conditioning programme provided by a trainer from our partner organisation HealthFit.
Over the course, students will be assessed both practically and theoretically over four achievement standards for a total of 16 credits at NCEA Level 2. These standards have been specifically chosen due to their usefulness in directly helping students develop as well-rounded athletes
